$20,000 reward offered in death of DeKalb couple

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

Police are offering a $20,000 reward for information that could lead to an arrest in a brutal crime that left a young DeKalb couple dead.

Police tell FOX 5 23-year-old Jeronta Brown and 21-year-old Briana Brooks pulled up to their DeKalb County home just after midnight on August 30 after getting something to eat. Police say a brown van pulled in behind them, then men posing as FBI agents got out and proceeded to abduct them.

They were ambushed by men with guns, bullet proof vests and other law enforcement gear.

The gunman called Brown's family demanding $150,000 in ransom, but sadly they followed through on their threat to shoot the couple.

Police say the two victims were left 20 miles away on Ridge Avenue in northwest Atlanta where they were found by a person who lives nearby. They were discovered handcuffed on the ground with gunshot wounds.

According to police, Brown was found dead at the scene. Brooks was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition and later passed away.

Members of the family say Brooks was pregnant with Brown's child. Brooks survived through the week, but died last Thursday. Doctors were able to successfully deliver her baby. The newborn remains in the hospital.

Funeral arrangements have been made for Brooks. Her mother tells FOX 5 her daughter's service will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Praise Church International in McDonough.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations made to the SunTrust bank account established to care for the couple's children. The fund is set up under the names Kaylie and Kylie Brown and Eric Martin Junior.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Atlanta Police Department or call Crime Stoppers (404-577-8477).

FOX 5 will continue to update this developing story.
