NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA-Philadelphia police say a man was shot and robbed when he pulled into the parking lot of the Pathmark on the 2100 block of Bleigh Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia just after 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Police say the masked thieves waited for their victim. When he pulled into this parking space they ambushed him in front of dozens of people.

"Cops outside. I mean you come to the supermarket you come to buy groceries and then you see something like this it’s a little surprising,” said shopper Vanessa Lisboa.

According to authorities, the victim was a local businessman.

"These two perpetrators waited in this parking lot maybe an hour or longer waiting for this victim to drive into the parking lot," Chief Police Inspector Scott Small.

Small says the 37-year-old victim was targeted by thieves in a White Dodge minivan, which is seen on surveillance video.

According to police, the victim was about to deposit a bag full of $70,000 in cash, which was collected from his businesses to the Citizens Bank inside Pathmark. That’s when the robbers boxed him into his parking space, police say. The victim locked himself in his minivan; but still, the two men busted through the windows and shot the victim, once in the arm before stealing the cash and taking off.

"Broad daylight, witnesses everywhere, cameras. For somebody to do something like that they can't be thinking past the moment,” said shopper Lisa Bowen.

The victim is in stable condition Frankford-Torresdale Hospital, he was armed, but he did not fire at the suspects, according to investigators.

Police have surveillance of the scene from both the Pathmark and the bank. Investigators say the suspects’ van has custom rims and a roof rack. The thieves did not wear gloves, police say, and investigators are collecting fingerprints and interviewing several eye witnesses.
