A Marion County man is bruised, bloodied, and behind bars -- all because, police say, he left three kids outside an Ocala bar while he was drinking.
According to the Ocala Police Department, Joshua Keith Delong stopped by Dr. B's, a bar on NE 8th Place, for a drink. By 2 a.m., he had allegedly been inside for four hours when someone came inside to find him because three children -- ages 5, 7, and 8 -- were inside a gold Cadillac, honking the horn and yelling "Daddy!"
"Daddy left us here for a long time and he does it a lot," one of the kids told the good Samaritan, according to the arrest report.
Police say Delong, at that point, tried to drive away. But bar security staff -- fearing he was drunk -- would not let him leave.
That's when, police say, a group of patrons from the bar came outside and began berating Delong for leaving the kids. One of them, an unknown man who drove away afterwards, punched Delong in the face, knocking him unconscious.
Delong, 28, was treated at ORMC, then arrested on three counts of child neglect. For his part, he denied that he had brought the kids with him to the bar and told police his wife must have been trying to set him up.
Delong is not stranger to law enforcement in Marion County. He's been arrested several times on charges from burglary to domestic battery.
He was being held on $6,000 bond for this latest arrest.
