Surveillance Video Captures Alleged Road Rage Shooting

Posted: Updated:
NORTH PHILADELPHIA-Police say a gunman fired at a SUV on a busy Philadelphia street in an alleged case of extreme road rage. People who live in the Allegheny West neighborhood where it happened say they heard gunshots and screeching tires.

FOX 29's Sabina Kuriakose spoke with the shop owner who caught the incredible video on his surveillance cameras.

At first, the scene captured on surveillance video looks like normal traffic flow. The video shows a red Jeep Laredo stopping at a red light, along the 300 block of North 23rd Street on Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. But then, a green Ford Taurus pulls up behind it, and within seconds, gunshots shatter the afternoon calm. You can see on the video, the passenger of the Ford jumps out and police say fires at least 3 times at the jeep with a 40- caliber semiautomatic handgun outfitted with an extended magazine.

"The folks that were inside the jeep, detectives interviewed them. They actually drove off from they location and went directly to the police station,” said Philadelphia Police Lt. John Stanford.

Lt. Stanford says two people, a 23-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman inside the jeep were not hit. He says the victims don't know their attacker.

Investigators are looking into whether this was an extreme case of road rage.

"You may not be paying attention, and realize you just cut someone off, or that someone is mad you didn't use your turn signal. What a way to find out the next light you get to someone gets out and fires at your vehicle," said Lt. Standford.

Mahrous owns Carnival Pizza on the corner. His surveillance cameras captured the whole shocking incident.

"Yea, you never know. You don't know what the situation happened between both, nobody knows. You can't tell because when you see this happen in not even 50 second," said shop owner Sayed Mahrous.

He says a lot of neighborhood kids usually play outside and he's happy no one was hurt.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, 20-30 years-of-age, medium complected, stocky build, possible beard, wearing a dark gray/black t-shirt with a logo on the front, and light blue jeans.
