Three people who went on an armed robbery spree last night may have been trying to raise funds for court fines.
Deputies say Willie Toledo, Lori Beth Fawaz, and Amie Lynn Brown tried to rob three different people Tuesday evening.
Toledo, 38, allegedly pistol-whipped the first victim after the man only had 50 cents to give him when he tried to rob him near the HART Bus Depot on West Waters Avenue.
It was about a half-hour later, deputies say when Fawaz, 44, tried to grab a purse from a woman in the parking lot of the Publix on West Waters. After a struggle, the would-be thief failed to grab the purse and fled.
Moments later, Brown allegedly jumped a woman in the area of Sheldon and Gardner roads. When the woman refused to give up her purse, deputies say Brown, 39, pulled out a handgun. The woman then complied.
Each time, the suspects fled in a red truck, which an HCSO helicopter team soon spotted behind a home South Meadowview Circle. Deputies arrived and interviewed the three suspects, who were positively identified by the victims.
All three were arrested.
A sheriff's office spokesperson says Toledo had been in court earlier in the day on other charges, where he did not have the money to pay the court fines.
