Driverless car testing continues today

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA (FOX 13) - It sounds like something out of a science fiction show: Driverless cars.  But they are a reality, and they got put through the paces along the Selmon Expressway. The upper level was closed until 3:30 Monday afternoon.

It’s all so Audi can test what they’re calling the car of the future. They’ve been driving their automated vehicle, called the “Audi Connect,” all weekend. It has been going back and forth from Tampa to Brandon the last few days.

Florida is one of only three states allowing automated car testing and the Selmon is one of a handful of roads approved for it.

Governor Rick Scott was on hand, getting a chance to test out the car.

Audi hopes to take the car to showrooms in five years.
