Tampa Fire Rescue crews were called to a house fire in the 1300 block of East North Bay Street early Friday morning.
Crews said the flames engulfed between 25 and 50 percent of the home, and sent thick, dark smoke billowing up into the air.
FOX 13 has learned there were five people inside, including children, when the fire broke out.
The home belonged to the family for about 20 years. One of the residents was not there when the fire started, but said his son smelled the smoke after waking up to get some water, and immediately got the rest of his family out of the house.
A neighbor said she woke up to the family frantically banging on her front door.
Crews said no one was injured in the fire.
FOX 13 will continue with updates from the scene as they become available.
