Long Island youth charged with assaulting mother

Posted: Updated:

DIX HILLS, N.Y. (AP) - An 18-year-old Long Island man has been charged with assaulting his mother in a home where his brother was found dead.

Charles Okonkwo of Dix Hills was awaiting an initial court appearance Sunday after his arrest on a second-degree assault charge.

The arrest was carried out by Suffolk County Homicide Squad detectives investigating the death of his 15-year-old brother. Police officers went to the family's home Saturday after Okonkwo's 62-year-old father returned home from a hospital stay to find his son Bradley dead and his 52-year-old wife unconscious with severe head injuries. Police say the other son was located and arrested near the home.

The wife was listed in serious condition at Stony Brook University Hospital. It was not immediately clear who will represent Okonkwo in court.
