Dashcam Captures Officer Dragging Suicidal Man Away From Highway

Posted: Updated:

NORTH OLMSTED, OH- A man in North Olmsted, Ohio is saved by a police officer - after he drunkenly ran onto a busy highway.

The incident was all caught on the police dashcam.

Patrolman Matt Beck had just pulled over a suspected drunk driver last week, when the man bolted into Traffic on I-480.

Beck began yelling at the man to get back in his car.

"He really couldn't believe what he was seeing at the time. It didn’t take him long to jump into action and help this guy out," said Sgt. Bob Wagner of North Olmsted Police.

When the suspect stayed on the highway, Officer Beck ran out into oncoming traffic to help him.

Beck's rescue was complicated by the highway's speed and traffic.

But the biggest complication in the rescue was the man pleading "just kill me" as he stood in the highway, as if he wanted to get hit by a car.

Officer Beck can then be seen on dashcam footage dragging the 5'7", 340 pound man by his arm across all lanes of traffic.

The incident occurred at around 11:00 a.m. in the morning, when the 54-year-old suspect's blood alcohol level was a 0.3, nearly 4 times the legal limit.

"He's a hero this guy should really thank him. I don’t believe that this guy really wanted to end his life but if he did, you know he's still around here so he should really thank the officer," said Wagner.
