More than 350 dogs are being treated at the Cherokee County Animal Shelter after being seized from a kennel in Cumming.
The dogs were taken from Heavenly Kennel after Cherokee County Marshal’s found the dogs housed in cages and living in their own feces and urine.
Several people stopped by the shelter Wednesday to drop off donations.
According to court records, Joy Wise, the owner of the kennel, was cited back in May with 264 animal neglect offenses and 264 cases of failure to comply with rabies vaccines laws.
In an ongoing investigation, Marshal’s went back to the property Tuesday with a search warrant and found the dogs in terrible conditions.
Officials with the Cherokee County Marshal’s Office say that because this is a criminal investigation, the shelter is not putting the dogs up for adoption right now.
Officials found feces, urine and dog food underneath most of the cages which had fallen through the grates.
According to the Cherokee Marshal’s Office, approximately 357 dogs were taken from the residence and transported to the Cherokee County Animal Shelter.
