Stray dog attacked by wild boar

DADE CITY (FOX 13) - Sometimes a second chance is all you need to get back on track.

"It is really just disturbing to see that a dog like that would just be left out in the woods," said Danielle Akenson.

River, the Boxer, has been given that chance.

"She is just so sweet and her injuries were old so she had been out there for awhile," said Akenson.

Daniella Akenson and a group of horseback riders found her while on a trail in Dade City.

"She just ever so gingerly walked up and was calm as could be," she said.

River only wanted some attention, but gained a chance for a do-over.
"She had rolled over on her back looking for a little belly rub and we noticed she had a puncture wound on her chest," said Akenson.

Danielle and her friends brought her to Blue Pearl in Tampa. They determined she had been attacked by a boar.

"They performed surgery early this morning on her mouth. She had a couple pretty good-sized puncture wounds in her chest," said Bill Gray.

Bill Gray with Second Chance Boxer Rescue speculates she could have been dumped.

"It looks like she's had litters several litters and it's common for people to once they get as many litters as they can out of a dog. They just dump the ma'am. They've made their money," he said.

Now it is his job to find her a home to call her own.

"She will have a good life wherever she goes," he said.
