Commuters should steer clear of Armenia Avenue and St. Joseph's Street Thursday morning after a water pipe ruptured and caused a large hole to open in the road.
Tampa police said it was at least 40 feet by 15 feet. They have closed southbound Armenia one block south of Columbus Avenue, and they advise drivers to use MacDill or Himes avenues instead.
City officials say a whole section of the pipe broke -- not just a joint, which would be easier to repair.
Crews say they expect to get things back to normal by Monday afternoon.
FOX 13 will continue with updates on this developing story.
