Polk County deputies say they have arrested the last two suspects wanted in a double carjacking case from last month.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies busted 23-year-old Frederick Peacock last Thursday, days after he and a 17-year-old accomplice escaped police during a chaotic chase over the thefts.
Both incidents happened within hours of one another on the morning of June 29th.
One of the victims, 56-year-old Laitile Hogan, told Lakeland PD at least three men had attacked her before getting away with her phone and her car. It was only 6 a.m. when she reported the carjacking, but officers were already investigating a similar incident reported by a couple at Barnett Park just hours before.
Police ended up spotting both stolen vehicles later on U.S. 98. The suspects had switched the license plates, and were then speeding away as the cops chased them down.
What already began as a violent chase turned fatal when one of the suspects, 24-year-old Brian Demarcus West, tried to jump from one of the stolen cars, and was hit by a patrol car.
Two other suspects were arrested that morning, but Peacock and the 17-year-old were nowhere in sight.
The sheriff’s office said it wasn’t long before one of the suspects gave up the names of his partners in crime.
After his arrest, Peacock confessed and told deputies how he and the 17-year-old escaped police that morning.
The 17-year-old turned himself in on Monday.
Both have several prior arrests in the county.
