Police arrested a man they say admitted to stealing electricity for the past six years.
Investigators picked up Louis Steiner, 48, Thursday night at his home in Dade City. Police say Steiner told them he had someone manipulate the electric meter six years ago without approval from Tampa Electric.
TECO estimates a total of $7,997.08 stolen electricity during that period.
Recently, a TECO employee noticed several cars at Steiner's home. But as far as TECO and that employee knew, the home was vacant.
"The employee became suspicious and went and did a routine maintenance check on that meter and discovered the theft," TECO Spokesperson Cherie Jacobs said.
Police say Steiner admitted to the theft, and said he never had the money to pay for it anyway.
