Those wishing for a way to avoid all of Tampa’s traffic will soon have an option with the city’s new Bike Share program.
Tampa’s Coast Bike Share will allow locals to reserve, release, ride and return any of the 300 new bikes stationed throughout downtown, Ybor City and Hyde Park.
Though the program is not expected to fully roll out until the end of August, locals can start registering for memberships as of Monday.
Membership prices start as low as $5 for hourly rentals, $30 for monthly use and $79 for a year of access. There are also student and corporate membership plans, as well as a $99 deal that allows for a free 90 minutes of riding each day.
The first people to sign up for the annual membership will receive a free helmet.
Once Coast Bike Share is in full swing, members will use a mobile and web-friendly app called “Social Bicycles, or “Sobi” to reserve bike rides. There is another application called “Social Cyclist” that will allow riders to record routes, add pictures request bike-parking and report road conditions along the ride.
More information on the program, registration, the applications and more can be found online at Coastbikeshare.com.
