Tampa teen severely beaten in Jerusalem

Posted: Updated:
A Tampa teen is brutally beaten and kicked allegedly by Israeli police.

Tariq Abu Khdeir, 15, was in Jerusalem with his family for his cousin's funeral when the incident happened.

Video aired on Palestinian TV, showing Israeli police restraining the teen and then kicking him several times.

He was jailed for taking part in a demonstration following the death of his cousin who was murdered days ago.

Tariq's family is now responding to the pictures.

"His lip, when I saw him I mean, as I was approaching his room there was a police officer that didn't want to let me in," said Tariq's mother, Suha Abu Khdeir. "So, but he did tell me that I can't touch him, I can't get near him, and I can't speak to him."

Israeli officers say the teen and his cousins were throwing stones at them.

His family denies that claim.

Tariq is still in the hospital.

Tariq Khdeir is a sophomore in High School at UAF in Tampa Florida and an American-born citizen.
