Hit & run crash victims laid to rest

ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - For many, the reality set in once they laid eyes on three hearses sitting side-by-side.

"It is just hard to know that they are gone and they won't be here anymore," said Simone Ellis.

Friends and family gathered to say their goodbyes to Briana Campbell, 23, Grace Colier, 27, and Jame'Sia Lang, 21.

"All three of them were loving. They were caring and they cared about everybody. Just to know that they are not here is like unbelievable," said Josette Ellis.

The three women died when the car they were in was hit by Marquice Anderson, 27.

St. Petersburg police believe Marquice Lamonz Anderson was behind the wheel of the car that was heading the wrong way down 16th Street early Thursday June 26, and slammed into another car.

Their car burst into flames and he left the scene.

He later turned himself in on June 30th.

The three women leave six kids behind.

"They had mothers that adored them. Their mothers loved them," said Josette Ellis.

Josette Ellis and her daughters are family friends. They said each woman did everything for their kids.

"Their mama always cared about them. They were the most caring thing to me," said Deja Ellis.

The family's attorney Darryl Rouson said relatives are picking up the pieces and working to fill the void for the children.

"These were working mothers who wanted their children to have the best opportunities in life," he said.

Anderson is facing several charges including vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a deadly crash and probation violation.

He is being held without bond in the Pinellas County Jail.

Family members set up the Three Angels with Six Blessings Foundation through Bank of America and the Zion Hill Mortuary.
