The Memorial Day holiday was a learning lesson for the City of Clearwater.
In less than two hours, police were dispatched to three crime scenes. Shots were fired in the Hyatt Hotel parking garbage, then in the parking lot and later along Gulfview Boulevard.
In the end, two people had been shot, and four arrested.
So with July 4th being the next big holiday, you can expect to see more police on the sand and in the streets.
Also, lifeguards will now be equipped with police radios so they can be in constant contact with law enforcement.
"We've also been working with local restaurants, clubs and hotels making sure- if there are any special events- they are keyed into those special events, and crowd control around those events," said Clearwater Public Information Officer Joelle Castelli.
The main cause of the Memorial Day shootings was likely alcohol, so this time around, police say undercover officers will be walking the beach, and strictly enforcing the no alcohol ban.
Tourism is a billion industry. Last year nearly 95 million tourists visited Florida, and many walked the silky sands of Clearwater beach. It's the city's crown jewel, and many want to keep it that way.
