City issues boil water notice for section of south Tampa

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA (FOX 13) -

The City of Tampa has issued a boil water notice for around 500 residents of south Tampa.

They say the area affected has the following boundaries:

  • South Himes Avenue on the west.
  • West Ballast Point Blvd. on the north
  • Hillsborough Bay on the east
  • MacDill AFB on the south

The air force base is not affected, the city says.

The notice comes after water samples showed potential contamination, but the city did not say by what.

Preliminary results of the testing are expected Friday.

In the meantime, the city says to take the following precautions:

  • Allow the water to run until it is clear before washing clothes.
  • It is OK to use non-boiled water for bathing, however avoid contact with cuts or other wounds when doing so.
  • Discard any ice from automatic ice-makers.
