Police say they have arrested a man for robbery and attempted murder after he took a woman's purse and strangled her unconscious.
It happened around 2 a.m. on Wednesday at Sertoma Park on Lake Shipp Drive.
The woman told police she was walking home from a nearby bar after being stranded by her friends, when she decided to stop at the park to use the restroom and charge her cell phone.
She was walking out of the bathroom when the suspect, 22-year-old Bradley Dugan, ran up and demanded her phone and her purse.
She told police she handed them over, but begged for them back. He gestured toward the restroom suggestively, so she started to walk away, but Dugan blocked her and strangled her until she blacked out.
She said she woke up to find him standing over her, and then he walked away.
One of Dugan’s friends was in the park with him just before it happened. He told police Dugan left for the restroom empty-handed, but came back with the bag.
After leaving the park, the friend said Dugan tried selling jewelry and prescription pills that were inside the stolen bag.
Police arrested him the following day and took the woman’s things back to her.
