SEBRING (FOX 13) -

A Sebring man who claimed he was Jesus Christ was charged with murder Monday for shooting his uncle 25 times.

Highland County deputies say 30-year-old Phillip Justin Markland got into an argument with his uncle June 15.

His uncle, 65-year-old Thomas Markland, called 9-1-1 saying he shot his nephew in self defense.

Phillip then allegedly shot Thomas 25 times at close range.

A witness told deputies that Phillip Justin Markland was known to use K2 and he showed up at a family gathering and repeatedly stated he was Jesus Christ and he was going to "take everyone home."

Phillip was treated for his wounds at Lakeland Regional Medical Center and told a deputy, "it was impossible for him to die because he was Jesus Christ," according to deputies.
