LUTZ (FOX 13) -

Deputies in Pasco County say an elderly woman who disappeared from her home Monday morning was killed by her live-in grandson.

A silver alert had been issued for Sylvia Rosalie Schmitt. The 74-year-old went missing from her Paradise Lakes condo early this morning.

Investigators initially said the circumstances of her disappearance were suspicious, but they did not explain why. Now, they say Brandon Machetto is charged with her murder.

Sheriff Chris Nocco said a neighbor called 911 to report seeing the 18-year-old loading a body into Schmitt's minivan this morning. Schmitt's body was later found inside the vehicle.

"The neighbor keeps watching Brandon. He then takes a body that's wrapped up. The neighbor can see feet. He takes it into his minivan and drives off," Nocco stated. "If it hadn't been for the neighbor notifying us, possibly at this point, we may not have known what had happened."

Deputies said Machetto has a history of domestic violence and was arrested for a previous altercation with Schmitt.

"This is another sad day in Pasco County where we talk about domestic violence," Nocco added.
