The registered sex offender accused of kidnapping a Valrico girl, stabbing her, and then stabbing himself is out of the hospital and in jail, authorities said Friday.
Steven Myers, 41, is in the Lafayette, Louisiana Correctional Center. He is being held without bond pending his first appearance in court.
Myers is accused of luring 16-year-old Ashley Lyon away from her home here in Hillsborough County.
Her parents took to social media to spread the word of her disappearance while authorities worked to track them down.
An alert store clerk in a Louisiana truck stop recognized Ashley early Thursday morning and called police.
Officer caught up to Myers, who led them on a high-speed chase for 40 minutes before stop sticks shredded his tires.
He got out of the car and started stabbing himself in the abdomen before officers got to him and stopped him.
They found Ashley in the car with multiple stab wounds to her upper torso.
Myers faces a variety of charges in Louisiana, and here in Hillsborough County, including attempted second-degree murder.
