CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. -

Police in South Jersey say they have arrested a suspect wanted in a series of armed robberies at 7-Elevens in the region.

Fox 29’s Dave Schratwieser reports.

They’ve left their mark all over South Jersey, a crew of masked armed robbers with a hunger for cartons of cigarettes and cash. Now, one of them is under arrest and police are turning up the heat on two accomplices still on the loose.

“We believe we have the ringleader of this, and there are two more individuals we're looking at,” said Camden County Prosecutor Warren Faulk.

Police believe the same three bandits, two robbers and a getaway driver, have struck 9 times in recent months in three counties. They've targeted 7-Eleven stores across our area.

According to police, they burst in waving guns, force the clerk to open storage rooms where cartons of valuable cigarettes are held and then they empty cash registers.

“They're definitely professionals they know what they’re doing,” said Prosecutor Faulk.

The gun toting bandits zip tie store workers, according to authorities. In a robbery at a 7-Eleven in Pennsauken, 27-year-old Adil Boutahli was shot four times and critically wounded. The bandits were caught on tape as they struck twice in Cherry Hill, once in Evesham, and again in Medford Lakes.

“We have taken what is a very dangerous individual off the streets,” said Prosecutor Faulk.

The suspect in custody is, 31-year-old Charles Walls of Collingswood. Police believe he was the shooter in the Pennsauken robbery.

“Mr. Walls is also a suspect in seven other 7-Eleven robberies that have occurred,” said Prosecutor Faulk.

Detectives say the bandits targeted cigarettes, so they could sell them on the black market in cities like Camden.
