Friday is National Take Your Dog to Work Day (TYDTWD) and thousands of dogs across the country are heading to the office.

Jenn Fadal, The Pack Mom, has a bit of history on TYDTWD, as well as a few tips to make sure your dog is ready for to make a corporate debut.

  • Pet owners have officially celebrated this tradition since 1999.
  • Pet Sitters International created the day with the goal of celebrating the human-canine bond, and to promote pet adoption.
  • Employers are encouraged to open their doors and welcome their employees and their four-legged companions.

Your dog should have harnessed the following etiquette skills prior to making its way to work:

  • Polite introductions- NO JUMPING
  • Sit/Lay down/ Stay
  • Settle
  • Proper leash skills- NO PULLING

Items to have with you:

  • Dog bed
  • High value treats
  • Water bowl
  • Leash/collar
  • Favorite toy
  • Baby gate

If your pet is not socially ready to join you at work this year, it is something you can strive for in 2015. In the meantime, work on his/her socialization skills by practicing manners in public spaces, and consider a training class.
