Lanes on southbound I-75 were closed in Manatee County after a load of mud spilled out onto the road.
The sticky scene was near mile marker 214, which is south of State Road 70.
A truckload of mud spilled out across the lanes after a truck driver failed to secure his rear gate, FHP investigators said.
Officials initially reported the mess was tar, but later determined it was merely mud.
Crews had shut down all lanes after the spill, but the roadway has since reopened.
