Powerful storms in tristate

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Powerful thunderstorms are moving across the tristate New York region Friday evening. Rain, hail, and lightning hit the area.

The National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings and watches for many counties in the area. The severe thunderstorm warnings have expired, but that doesn't mean that the thunderstorms are not potentially dangerous.

Officials urge motorists to "not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground."

The storms caused big delays at Newark, LaGuardia, and Kennedy airports.
