CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Four people died and one person was critically injured in a crash on the Northwest Side early Thursday.

The single-vehicle crash happened about 3 a.m. after a speeding driver lost control of a BMW 328xi and hit a wall in a service alley behind a Lowe’s at 2630 N. Narragansett Ave., police at the scene said.

Ricardo Rociles, 22, of the 2500 block of North Mango Avenue, and 19-year-old Jesus Salgado, of the 2100 block of North Nagle Avenue, were both dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Rafael Leal, 19, of the 5000 block of West Fletcher Street, and 19-year-old Jennifer Robles, of the 1500 block of Northfield Avenue in Harvard, were taken to Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, where they were both pronounced dead at 4:20 a.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

Autopsies Friday determined all four died from multiple injuries from the motor vehicle crash, and their deaths were ruled accidents, the medical examiner’s office said.

The only survivor of the crash, a female, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where she was listed in critical condition, police said.

The car nearly struck more than 100 propane tanks behind the store and was “five feet from blowing the whole place up,” said Elliot Musial, an investigator for the police Major Accidents Unit.

The car’s roof had to be cut off to extract the male driver and the passengers, Musial said.

The area is a well-known spot for drag racing, Musial said.
