Search intensifies for two missing children

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - The search for two missing children on Detroit's west side intensified Wednesday evening.

Six-year-old Kaylah Hunter and 8-month-old Kristian Justice were last seen the end of May. Their mother, Alicia Fox, had also been reported missing but her body was found Monday night in an abandoned home on Penrod Street.

FOX 2's Amy Lange was at the scene on Ardmore Street, where the family used to live, and showed us video of investigators going behind the home with shovels at about 6 p.m. She reports Detroit police have roped off the road at Ardmore and Margarita after a K-9 unit picked up a scent behind an abandoned home. The shovels arrived shortly thereafter.

Investigators with the Violent Crimes Taskforce searched the abandoned houses on Ardmore Street next to the home where Alicia Fox, her husband, Erin Justice, and children Kaylah Hunter and Kristian Justice had been living.

Fox's badly-decomposed body was discovered by her family on Monday eight miles away at a different abandoned house on Penrod Street after they received an anonymous tip. The children are still missing.

Fox's husband was last seen at the home on Ardmore Street loading up a U-Haul at the end of May.

Fox's family says Erin Justice and the U-Haul were also spotted on Penrod Street before he took off for Atlanta, Ga. He was voluntarily interviewed by FBI there Tuesday and was released pending further investigation.

Police say Kaylah's father last received a text from Fox on Tuesday, June 3. Then he reported her and his daughter missing three days later.

Too distraught to go on camera, he released a statement saying, "I am still hopefully for my daughter along with her brother's return. each day my baby girl is not here, a piece of my heart is ripped away. My only want right now is that she and her brother are found. I am asking for anyone who knows any information to please contact the Detroit Police Department so that these two innocent children can be returned."
