LAKELAND (FOX 13) -
Lakeland Police are hoping to speak with a person of interest in a case of attempted sexual battery, a department spokesperson said Wednesday.
On June 2, a man was caught on surveillance video waiting outside the bathroom at a Chevron gas station on US Highway 98.
"It shows him walking up to begin with, and then kind of hanging around and hanging out outside of the bathroom," said Ann Dinges, a spokesperson for Lakeland Police.
Police said a 61-year-old woman in the bathroom accused that man of trying to commit a sex crime on her.
"[Detectives] just have the video and we want to get this person identified so that we can speak with him and find out what happened," Dinges said. "We'd like to get him off the streets."
The man is described as approximately 6'0-6'1, with a heavy build and muscular, wearing greenish or gray pants.
The victim said his eyes were an "odd color," appearing hazel or blue.
Investigators aren't going into details about what might have happened. The man in the video is at least 6 feet tall with a heavy and muscular build. The victim described the man's eyes as either hazel or blue. He was wearing a greenish or gray pants. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Paula Tolbert at 863-834-8981 or Crimestoppers at 800-226-8477.
