TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Drivers, students and parents are finally getting what they've been asking for: new school buses in Hillsborough County.

Board members voted Tuesday night to purchase 100 new buses at a cost of $11 million.

The sale went through on a 5 to 2 vote.

For months, we've been reporting on problems with Hillsborough school buses.

"Our fleet is old. It has an impact on the buses, it has an impact on our mechanics because it makes their job harder, so we think it's gonna help a lot in transportation that we have some new buses coming," said district spokesperson Steve Hegarty.

The school board voted to buy the buses from the "Thomas Company, which was the superintendent's recommendation.
