PALMETTO (FOX 13) - A little girl injured when a swing set collapsed on her six and a half years ago passed away Monday morning, her family said.

Lexi Antorino was 2 years old in December of 2007 when the accident happened.

A babysitter was swinging her in a baby seat attached to a swingset in Palmetto when the swingset collapsed and landed on her.

It broke bones in her neck and skull, and left her in a coma.

According to her family, she recently developed pneumonia and fluid in her lungs. Her organs shut down and she died around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The civic association that owned the swingset eventually paid a $1.5 million settlement to the family -- a figure her family’s attorneys said would not be enough for her life-long care needs.

Lexi eventually came home from the hospital, still in a coma and on a ventilator, and needing around-the-clock care.

Plans for her funeral services have not yet been finalized.

Lexi's family waits for a miracle:
