A man has been arrested in Manatee County after deputies say he ran someone over not once, but two times over the weekend.
According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, it happened on Sunday when 26-year-old Evan Lewis and his passenger, 24-year-old Amy Pierce, were driving in the parking lot of a Bradenton Family Dollar.
They told deputies they needed a picture of 28-year-old William Rainey’s license plate in order to file a restraining order against him, so they found his car in the lot to do so.
Just after they snapped their picture, Rainey walked out of the store and threw something at their car.
Then, things took a terrible turn as he walked toward them to pick it up.
Lewis sped toward the object in his car, deputies say, in an effort to beat Rainey to it, but Rainey got there first.
He was bending down to pick it up when Lewis ran into him for the first time, which sent him flying onto the windshield, over the car and then onto the ground.
Rainey stood back up, but reports say Lewis turned his car around and hit him one more time.
Rainey was taken to a nearby hospital, and Lewis was arrested for aggravated battery with a motor vehicle.
Pierce has not been charged in the case.
