TARPON SPRINGS (FOX 13) -
It was scary Monday morning for a couple of residents in Tarpon Springs, when a brush fire broke out close to home.
The fire started in a 42-acre preserve behind a neighborhood at the 1700 block of Mariner Drive.
Division of Forestry and Pinellas County fire units were on scene within minutes. They were able to contain the flames to five acres.
FOX 13 spoke with a resident who says they were the first one to call 911.
“Well I was concerned when it started. It’s pretty close to my house, “ said one resident. “There are some canals back there, but it easily could have jumped over and gotten pretty close. So yeah- I was concerned.”
Officials have not yet said what caused the fire.
