Coveted Detroit auction house off the market

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - A Detroit house that was back on the auction block a week after it drew record-breaking bids is officially off the market now. The city says a computer glitch forced them to re-do the sale.

The Detroiter who thought he won the house in last week's auction, Carl Hollier, went back to the bidding -- and won with a bid of $97,900.

Last week, he was willing to pay $135,000 for it.

"With the leaded glass windows and the amazing porch and the wood features, and there's all kind of little ornate details on the handles and on the sliding doors, it's just mind blowing," says Hollier.

The four bedroom, three thousand square foot mini mansion is a gem.

"I was steaming the first couple of days but people told me God works in mysterious ways, you know, a blessing in disguise," Hollier says.

He got word of his winning wager while deejaying a wedding reception.

"When I got that email, man, I was spinning that wedding on cruise control. They were like, 'Oh, you're so excited when you deejay!' And I am! But I don't think I've ever been this excited," he says. "My fiance was calling it my patience coupon. 'You were stressed out for seven days and you got a 40 thousand dollar deal.'"

That will go a long way in restoring the house and, if he can bring it back to it's former glory, this could be the envy of Boston Edison.

"I want everybody to look and be like, 'I remember when that guy was fighting to win that house and I remember when he won it.' And now, every year they have a Boston Edison home tour - I want to be one of the houses on the Boston Edison home tour that people come to and they're like, 'Wow.' I want to blow people away," he says.

Hollier should get the keys to the house in a couple days. He should be able to close in as few as three weeks.
