Jaywalking teens hit by car along Bearss Avenue

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA (FOX 13) - A brother and sister suffered apparently minor injuries after being hit by a car along Bearss Avenue this afternoon, the last day of school.

According to the sheriff's office, a group of around 30 students from Buchanan Middle School was walking down the sidewalk when several students decided to run across the street near Monet Drive -- not in a crosswalk.

Most of the students made it across except for two of the students, a 12-year-old boy and his 14-year-old sister, who were the last two to run across.

They were struck by an oncoming Honda Civic.

Deputies say the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, but both were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in stable condition.

The 19-year-old driver of the Civic, meanwhile, was cited for driving with a suspended license.
