SARASOTA (FOX 13) -
Police say a Brazilian ballet dancer was killed after being hit by a truck Wednesday afternoon.
According to Sarasota police, Pedro Pupa was bicycling along North Tamiami Trail when a delivery truck pulled in front of him while making a turn into a Ringling Museum service road.
Pupa, 20, was taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton where he later died from his injuries.
Police say the driver of the truck failed to see Pupa or the bicycle. Willie G. Burns, 58, has been charged with violation of right away to a bicyclist, though the investigation continues.
Pupa was a dancer with the Sarasota Ballet.
"The shock and pain we all feel at Pedro's sudden death is unbearable," the troupe posted on Facebook this morning. "He was a beautiful dancer, a hard working member of the company, a true friend, a loving son and most of all a wonderful person to simply be around. He will forever be in our hearts and through this he will never truly be gone."
