An argument with his girlfriend was the final straw during a rough patch in his life. At least that’s what 26-year-old Joseph Villarrubia told his arresting officers after a violent car chase Wednesday evening.
According to Brooksville Police, it all began around 7 p.m. on Broad Street when Villarrubia sped past a BPD patrol car at 90 mph.
The officer tried to pull him over, but Villarrubia kept driving. He swerved in and out of traffic all down Broad Street, ran the light at Cortez Boulevard and even crashed into a stopped car at the Main Street intersection.
But that did not stop him.
Officials say Villarrubia turned his Mercedes around and started going the wrong way in another lane, and stopped only after he intentionally crashed into an officer’s car.
Villarrubia got out and tried to run away, but a police K9 caught up to him. He punched the dog and also swung at the dog's handler before he was arrested.
Villarrubia later told officers he decided to “challenge” them because he was going through a tough time, and had just had an argument with his girlfriend.
They booked him at the Hernando County Jail on several charges
