Two Pinellas County teenagers are starting their summer behind bars. The two are accused of carjacking a Clearwater nurse while she read her Bible before her shift early Tuesday morning.
Susan Biggs says she backed her car into her usual spot outside Clearwater's Morton Plant Hospital around 4:30 a.m. Monday, when she heard some voices from behind her vehicle.
Then, she noticed two armed men, next to her window.
"I saw the guns pointed at me so I got out of the car," she said.
She says the two suspects had bandanas over their faces, and took off in her car. She ran inside the hospital for help.
Pinellas Park, Clearwater, and Largo police swarmed the scene and searched for the two suspects by land and air. Shortly after, they found Biggs' car, ditched near a recycling facility off US 19 near 66th Street. Police later tracked down the two suspects, and arrested them on felony carjacking charges.
FOX 13 is not naming the suspects because they are both minors. One of the suspects is 15 years old, the other is 17 years old.
Biggs' car was returned later Tuesday afternoon, with some added dents and scratches. She even got her purse back.
But the nurse's most prized possession is still missing: her Bible.
"It hurts me. I hope they use the Bible and read it," Biggs said Tuesday afternoon.
Bigg's son, Grant, also had some words for the two suspects.
"If you have the Bible you're going to need it where you're going. That's what I got to tell him. She doesn't have her Bible and that's the most prized thing she has in that vehicle. It's not there now. So whether he threw it out the window or whether they've got it. They're going to need it," he said.
The two suspects are now facing felony carjacking charges. The 15-year old is facing additional burglary charges, and is being questioned by Largo police for a different carjacking crime at a MacDonald's drive thru line Monday night.
