The 9-year-old went missing Friday between 5:30 and 6 p.m. when reports say she wandered away from a Doral Oaks apartment in the area of North 56th Street and Busch Boulevard in Temple Terrace.
"It's been agonizing, just wondering what happened, why it happened and what was the nature of the cause of it happening?" said Felecia Demerson, the girl's mother.
Police arrested her caretaker, 23-year-old Eboni Alicia Wiley, and charged her with giving false information to law enforcement during an investigation. We're told she waited at least three hours before reporting Felecia missing Friday night.
Demerson said Wiley is a former neighbor who was like a sister to Felecia. Police haven't said what misleading information led to Wiley's arrest.
"I would like to know what she's hiding," Demerson said. "Why did I trust her? Because she did numerous things in the past with her so there was no reason why I would fear her."
Investigators over the weekend said Felecia's autopsy confirmed that she was killed but wouldn't provide further information.
Demerson is praying for an arrest.
"Come forward. Turn yourself in because I need closure. I need closure in order to really move on," she said.
