Pinellas dispatchers got a gruesome call Friday afternoon from a man who said he stabbed and killed his mother.
When deputies went to the home in Eastwood Pines Townhomes, they ended up shooting and killing a man who they say charged at them.
It all unfolded at 2917 Pinecone Circle in the High Point area of Clearwater, according to the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office says the call came in just after noon Friday.
They say when Corporal Pete Doyle, 42, knocked on the door, he heard screaming and yelling inside.
According to the sheriff’s office, 36-year-old Justin Sean Tucker came outside, and deputies say he came at Doyle with something in his hand.
"He kept advancing towards Corporal Doyle, so Corporal Doyle actually backed up and was trying back up as he was coming at him and telling him to stop. And then when he didn't stop, that's when he fired," said Sheriff Bob Gualtieri. "[The suspect] was just totally out of control."
When deputies went inside, they found the body of a woman who appeared to be stabbed to death, with a butcher knife next to her. She was identified as 67-year-old Kathryn Marie Clark
Michael Caldwell, a neighbor, watched the event unfold.
"It was terrifying because there are kids in the neighborhood and it's usually a quiet neighborhood. And we don't see this all the time. When a cop jumps out of a car with his guns drawn, it's pretty scary," Caldwell said. "It was devastating. I have four kids and it just hits home."
Investigators did not immediately confirm if and how Tucker and Clark were related.
