PORT RICHEY (FOX 13) -
A home invasion suspect who tried to get away is in critical condition Thursday after crashing a car into a nearby house.
Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies are still investigating, but here’s what they have said of the incident so far.
It all started around 11 p.m. Wednesday at a home on the 6900 block of Alta Vista Lane in Port Richey. The suspect, was armed and wearing a mask when he knocked on the door. He's described as a Hispanic male, and a known gang member.
According to deputies, Heidi Christophell refused to let him in, but he shattered a window and crawled through anyway.
At that point, Christophell grabbed her boyfriend’s handgun from her bedroom. She fired several shots and the suspect ran away.
The suspect, 38-year-old Anthony Capuano, was later spotted driving a white Chevy Impala, which he ended up crashing into a home on El Camino Real.
First responders took him to the hospital with a gunshot wound, where he remains in critical condition.
Back at the victim's home, deputies arrested the woman's boyfriend for possession of marijuana when he arrived. Steven Joseph Brown, 21, faces possession charges. Sheriff Chris Nocco says Capuano went to the home to buy drugs from Brown.
