Insurers refuse to cover medical marijuana

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Patients who use medical marijuana for pain and other chronic symptoms can take an unwanted hit.

Insurers don't cover the treatment.

Treatment can cost as much as $1,000 a month.

In November, voters will decide if medical marijuana should be legal in Florida. The legislature has already approved one strand of low-THC medical marijuana.

If the measure passes, don't expect insurance companies to cover it in Florida. The industry is sending a clear message that it won't pay for it.

Most companies are reluctant because the drug is still illegal federally, and it’s not approved by the FDA.
