Maruchi Azorine has big dreams and she's turned those dreams into reality. Thirty years ago, she bought an old gas station in the middle of Palma Ceia and decided to transform it into Villa Rosa, a home goods store that specializes in fine linens.
"We have some of the most beautiful fabrics in the world. And when I say beautiful I don’t mean expensive" says Azorine.
Shoppers will find both old and new inside Villa Rosa. Azorine travels around the world where she handpicks all the materials sold in her shop. Her favorite thing to do is take pieces of antique fabrics and turn them into something new. She prides herself in finding hidden gems at markets throughout Italy and Paris.
"It's the fact that it's such old embroidery. No one embroiders like that anymore. Nobody makes lace like that anymore. It's a lost art,” says Azorine.
Azorine preserves that art with help from her staff, who spend all day ironing and sewing everything from sheets to tablecloths to dresses. She has even patented her own product called Linen Wash, which is sold in specialty stores nationwide. She says Linen Wash will take out even the toughest stains.
"It's truly been a labor of love but it's been a pleasure to have done it for 30 years," says Azorine.
After three decades and great success, Azorine has no plans on slowing down.
"Everyone asks what is your exit plan? I don't have one. I'm having too much fun, I don't want to retire. I just hope we'll be here for many more years and maybe someday we'll celebrate 50 or 60 years," says Azorine.
She's has plenty of experience and great advice for budding businesswomen. Her big advice is for women to take a deep breath and keep on going. She says it's hard work but it's worth it!
