Tampa police saved a man attempting to jump off the Dr. MLK Jr. bridge at the Hillsborough River this week.
Two officers noticed the man standing on the ledge, contemplating jumping into the water.
The two started to talk to the man and keep him calm while other officers arrived.
But the victim would not climb down from the ledge.
"He was very irate and upset and thought people were trying to hurt him," said Officer Jerry Wyche. "He didn't want anyone next to him because he didn't want anyone to see him suffer and he was in pain and just wanted the pain to stop."
Officer Wyche managed to eventually grab the man and pull him to the side of the bridge.
Other officers rushed over to help pull the victim back over to safety.
Police say the man was still upset and took him to St. Joseph's Hospital.
