TARPON SPRINGS (FOX 13) -

A SWAT team was called out to a standoff situation in Tarpon Springs, which ended with a man in custody.

Negotiators spent hours trying to talk to a 27-year-old man who had barricaded himself in the rear bedroom of a home in the 500 block of South Levis Avenue.

Around 10:08 p.m., police officers responded to the home. The first contact police had with the man happened around 4:30 a.m.

About an hour and a half later, the man surrendered himself and his 1-year-old son who was in the room at the time.

Police Capt. Jeff Young described a tense situation in the overnight hours, but he said at no point did he think surrounding neighbors were in danger.

A female called police and said that her son had doused her barbecue grill trailer with fuel. The trailer is parked out front of the residence, and she told officers that her son was acting strangely.

That's what started the entire ordeal.

We're working to get his identity and his charges.
