Man arrested after dog found underweight and malnourished

ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - Authorities arrested a man and charged him with animal abuse when a neighbor found his 17-year-old German Shepherd about 30 pounds underweight and malnourished.

38-year-old Jason Aldridge posted a $5,000 bond Saturday evening, hours after his arrest. Neighbors said he has not returned to his trailer on Haines Road in Pinellas County.

His dog, "Rocky," was taken by animal services early Saturday morning after a neighbor found him lying in her yard and called 911.

"The dog couldn't move," said Jenny Martin. "It couldn't even stand up. I had to hold its head up to drink water and hand feed it food."

Inside Aldridge's trailer deputies found Rocky's bed soaked in urine and feces.

According to the arrest report, there was no food or water in his bowls, and the only plastic bag of food was crawling with bugs.

Aldridge told investigators he had not taken Rocky to the vet because he could not afford it.

Martin and several other neighbors said Rocky had to be put down because of his deteriorating condition.

Animal Services could not confirm their reports by the time of this story, since it was after business hours.
