Sarasota man charged with vacation rental fraud

Posted: Updated:
SARASOTA (FOX 13) - Before Craig Siegel got into a waiting car after bonding out of jail, he said charges of fraud against him, were all a misunderstanding.
"Over-regulation of the government is the bane of our society, that's what I think," said Siegel.
But did he advertise a twelve-bedroom house that only had five bedrooms?
"No comment on that, that's ongoing litigation."
Denise Blair of Sarasota should be in Craig Siegel's rental house for vacation right now.
"This was supposed to be for my fiftieth birthday that is coming up on Friday. I was having friends come in, family come in," said Blair.
For $5,000, they would all stay in what she thought was a twelve-bedroom rental for the week.
But in January, she canceled, when she found out the house wasn't as advertised.
"(I said) You give me my money back. He said no, we are not in the financial position to do that," said Blair.

Deputies say Siegel collected $53,000 from at least 19 victims from around the country.
Monday around 7 a.m., a code inspector showed up at Siegel's home.
Deputies say Siegel doused the man with a bucket of pee.
He told us the code man was sneaking around the property.
"That's just an allegation," said Siegel. "Like I said I can't comment on that."
Deputies point out that he made $173,000 in investment contributions this year, despite his saying he couldn't pay anyone back.
Monday night he said he would.
"They're going to be taken care of 100 percent," said Siegel.

Blair has some satisfaction that Siegel's going to have to explain himself for a judge, for the house and the pee.
"Love it, that's where he deserves to be. I asked him many times to make it right," said Blair. "Doing that to someone, come on, that's just disgusting."

He faces a battery charge on a code inspector for the alleged pee and nineteen fraud charges for the houses.
