Mother Killed, Daughter Hurt When Struck By Truck In Voorhees

VOORHEES, N.J. -

A community is mourning the loss of a woman, while her daughter fights for her life.

Police say the pair was struck crossing a busy intersection in Voorhees, New Jersey, on their way to a local drug store.

Fox 29’s Dave Schratwieser reports.

Neighbors say the intersection at Evesham and Kresson roads is almost always busy with traffic.

They were stunned to hear that 63-year-old Serafina Fel had lost her life here and that her 38-year-old daughter Anna Veksler is in critical condition at the hospital.

“I feel sorry. I know she was 64-year-old lady, her daughter's 38, she's doing real bad in the hospital,” one neighbor said.

Another neighbor said, “It's just horrible, there's a lot of activity here and that intersection is just horrible.”

Voorhees police say the mother and daughter were struck crossing the road by the driver of a 1990 Ford Ranger pickup.

Police say the driver did stop after the accident. Emergency crews raced both victims to Cooper Hospital where Fel died and Weksler was treated for life-threatening injuries. Police say distracted driving could have been a factor.

Neighbors at a nearby condo complex say crossing at this intersection can be tricky. Several told Fox 29 they won't even attempt to cross here.

The driver did give police a statement. Police would not identify the driver since no criminal charges have been filed at this point. Investigators say it could be several days before that investigation is completed.
