Dozens of zoo animals vanish in Fla. county

Posted: Updated:
GROVELAND, Fla. (FOX 13) -

Authorities in Lake County say they're looking for more than a dozen animals that vanished from a petting zoo.

Their owner says they didn't escape, and deputies believe someone stole them from the Red Wing Restaurant's petting zoo.

Patrick Borsey rescued the animals and placed them in his small zoo in the town of Groveland. A few weeks ago, he went out to feed the 13 goats and two piglets, but they were nowhere to be found.

Borsey put out signs and asked around, without luck. Then a friend spotted a photo of one of the missing pigs online.

"A friend saw a picture on Facebook with a girl and a baby pig – a local girl, and sent me the picture and I notified the sheriff's office," Borsey said.

Deputies questioned the girl's boyfriend. They say he admitted to stealing the piglet, but he claims he had nothing to do with the other animals.

The piglet is back home to its owner this morning – but the whereabouts of the other animals remain a mystery.

Borsey is offering a $500 reward for their return.
